Our studio
In our workshop, we make our own papier-mâché bowls and dishes. Who hasn't made them at school? You'd get a balloon and then put torn newspaper sheets dipped in wallpaper paste on top. These days, there are many ways to work with papier-mâché. We primarily use pre-made pulp that only needs to be diluted with water. The final product is sturdy and can withstand some impact.
The process
It always takes a while for a product to appear in the webshop. We make our bowls and dishes from molds. These molds are nothing more than bowls and dishes that we like. The papier-mâché is kneaded into a smooth clay mass and then shaped with foil in the bowl until it reaches the desired thickness and smoothness. We place it in the bowl and not on the outside because this pulp shrinks during the drying process. If we were to place it around the bowl, the product would crack. After it is shaped, the drying process begins. This can take several days depending on the size and thickness. In between, we remove the product from the mold and turn it several times over the course of several days and/or add weights to prevent warping. Once the product is completely dry, the edges and imperfections are sanded down, and then we paint the product, photograph it, and then it is displayed in the webshop.
